Established more than 20 years ago, Fort Bragg Feed & Pet has expanded and evolved over the years. In the beginning, Cathy Rowbottom was the store's owner, and the store was called Fort Bragg Feed and Supply. When the business expanded to accommodate pets and pet supplies as well as livestock feed and supplies, the store's name was changed to the more descriptive Fort Bragg Feed & Pet.

In 1998, Gale and Connie Van Curen joined the ownership of "the feed store," as many of our long time loyal customers call us. Baker Hayter, our General Manager, has been on staff since 1985.

Throughout the years, we've employed many members of our community. We've had more of the local high school students on staff here than we can easily remember. We've known some of the high school and 4H kids since they were babies, and at times we felt as if we were hiring still more of our family members. It is always bittersweet when "our" kids grow up and move on to higher education or other jobs.

In addition to our large assortment of livestock and pet feeds, we sell tropical fish, birds, small animals, and an ever-increasing inventory of pet toys, cages, collars, and leashes. We are known for a well stocked “parts department” of pig ears, bully sticks, hooves, and other dog chews and treats. We have a dog tag machine with pet ID tags that can be engraved on both sides. A good idea when having a pet ID tag made for your pet is to also have the word REWARD engraved on the tag. Our upcoming expansion of our retail store will give us room for a tack department and more birds, fish, and other products. Watch us grow and don’t be afraid to make suggestions about things we can add or do to help us serve you better.

We are the only full service tropical fish store on the coast.  Tracey Bernardini is our Fish Department Manager.  She takes care of all aspects of our Fish Department and handles special orders, and is on hand Monday through Friday to answer questions and help problem solve.  We offer free water tests if you aren't sure what is happening in your tank--just bring us a sample of your tank water in a clean ziplock bag. 

Fort Bragg Feed & Pet is, of course, pet friendly. Ben, the feed store cat, is a local celebrity and has selective hearing and vision. He samples the newest pet treats, beds, and toys for us, so he keeps pretty busy. He's never too busy for a nap on the front counter, though, and he's popular with the many cat lovers who frequent our store.

Fort Bragg Feed & Pet offers dog biscuits at the best price and selection in town. You can choose cheese, peanut butter, lamb and rice, and many other flavors for just $1.20 per pound. You can mix and match an assortment, too. We also sell several brands of biscuits designed to provide your dog with targeted health benefits in treat form. Our canine customers are invited to sample our selections, and sometimes even our human customers have been known to consider taking a taste. The cheese square biscuits and peanut shaped peanut butter biscuits are extremely popular.

Fort Bragg Feed & Pet is a family business, which is an increasingly rare phenomenon in this day and age of big box and online stores. Our manager, Baker, is Cathy's long time boyfriend. Connie and Gale's daughter, Katie, works here, as her brother did before her. Cathy's daughter Sandy worked here in the past. Most work days, twins Connie and Cathy bring their dogs, spoiled Shih-Tzus Ching, Suki, and Sam, to the feed store. Ching and Suki belong to Connie, and Sam, Cathy's boy, is the brother to Ching and Suki. Our own Leilani Levy brings her dog, Bear.   Connie and Gale haven’t bought their quarter horses to work yet, but it could happen.

Darren Sypriano is our newest "delivery guy."  When he's not out delivering hay and feed he helps out around the store.  Kevin Gordon is also on staff, as well as Caleb Word and Joe Mello.  The guys keep the store in top shape,  and they can be counted on to keep spirits high.  We are proud to say we have an excellent staff, and we know how fortunate we are to have them.

We sell a variety of small animals, including hamsters and other rodents. Many of the babies we sell are bred and raised by our employees.

This is Baker Hayter, our General Manager. He's also Cathy's "main squeeze." Well, I think I may have mentioned that we ARE a family business.

This is my husband Gale pausing in the front part of our store long enough to get his picture taken. Gale does some of the ordering, he keeps our machinery repaired, he does a lot of the pricing, he's a whiz at taking inventory, and he's a stickler for CLEAN. He's kind of old school when it comes to computers and digitals, but give him a real tool and he can fix just about anything.

Discounts do not apply to hay or straw, or some items that are already discounted or on sale.

We have several customer loyalty programs, too, so be sure to ask for your frequent buyer's card when one is applicable. You can get some real savings if you use a lot of a certain pet food or livestock feed. Remember this discount if you purchase your live chicks and chick feed from us during chick season.

Here is some information about a special we have quite often but we can't really advertise it because it would spoil the surprise. When a member of our staff has a birthday, that person is treated to a "surprise" party at the front counter. There is birthday cake (or birthday pie), and we sing "Happy Birthday" to the lucky and maturing employee. If customers are in the store, they are invited to join in. How many stores have employee birthday specials? It's just another thing we do to make our families, friends, and neighbors feel special. So if you hear raucous singing coming from the direction of our store, rush right over and get some free cake!
